Once he is corrected, he either becomes an orthodox member of the faithful, or becomes a formal heretic. The Church has to protect the faithful from heresy, and so, all who hold heretical positions have to be publicly considered as being outside of the Church, regardless of the subjective state of their souls. Every bishop who refuses To enforce canon 915 denies this.
