Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage organizers deny being banned from Augustinianum. The organizers of the annual Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage have denied reports that they were barred from using Rome’s Augustinianum conference center in 2027. The October 30 statement contradicts an earlier account by Luigi Casalini of MessaInLatino.it. In a communiqué, Christian Marquant, president of the International Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimage Organizing Committee (CISP), stated: “The CISP did not ask the Augustinianum to hold its PAX LITURGICA 2027 session in its Auditorium. The work, begun in 1957, by the late Father Maurice Raffalli, has been without a priestly member since Father's death in 2020 at the age of 87. Having assisted at the first vows of the Congregation in the 1990s, the Coronation of the Image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and its later enthronement in the beautiful sanctuary built by Fr Raffalli, it has been a very great joy for us to spend this week here with our friends of so many years. After 441 years, the Franciscans say goodbye to Tolosa, Spain. On 25 October, the town of Tolosa witnessed the end of a remarkable chapter in its history. After more than four centuries, the Franciscan friars celebrated their farewell Eucharist at San Francisco Church. The liturgy was led by Bishop Fernando Prado of San Sebastián. The remaining Franciscans will relocate to Zarautz. Throughout their 441 years in Tolosa, the Franciscans played an important role in education, spiritual life, the preservation of the Basque language and local cultural traditions. Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage will return in October 2027 - despite the Vatican's refusal last weekend. In the October 30 newsletter on PaixLiturgique.com, Christian Marquant looks back at the difficult pilgrimage to St. Peter's Basilica. The Vatican Secretariat of State had refused permission both to celebrate Mass in St. Peter's Basilica and for the pilgrims to enter in procession on October 24.
